This electric motor can be used bidirectionally, either as a generator (alternator) or as a starter. More about MHEV drive technology can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/mhev-mild-hybrid-electric-vehicle\/\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\nngg_shortcode_3_placeholder\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>The mild-hybrid technology is primarily used to reduce fuel consumption and <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/emise-vyfukovych-plynu\/\">exhaust emissions<\/a>, especially the monitored amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/oxid-uhlicity-co2\/\">carbon dioxide<\/a> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/oxid-uhlicity-co2\/\"><strong>CO<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/oxid-uhlicity-co2\/\"><strong><sub>2<\/sub><\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> For this reason, most global car manufacturers equip their traditional combustion engine models with various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/hybridni-pohon\/\">types of hybrid technologies<\/a>. The simplest way to apply hybrid technology is through a mild hybrid. This easily creates classic models with lower consumption, such as the VW Golf eTSI or VW Passat eTSI.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Principle of eTSI operation:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">A car with eTSI technology is equipped with a proven <strong>combustion <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/tsi-twincharger-stratified-injection\/\"><strong>TSI engine<\/strong><\/a> and a small electric motor functioning as a starter-generator. This electric motor operates either <strong>in alternator mode<\/strong> to charge the 48V batteries or <strong>in boost mode<\/strong> to assist the combustion engine in powering the vehicle. Additionally, the electric motor enables the start of the combustion engine, eliminating the need for a traditional starter in MHEV vehicles. The basic level of hybridization is represented by vehicles bearing the trade name <strong>eTSI<\/strong>. These are the above-described <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/mhev-mild-hybrid-electric-vehicle\/\">MHEV<\/a> vehicles, which cannot run purely on electricity. The second, higher level of hybridization is represented by vehicles marked as <strong>eHybrid<\/strong>. These vehicles can already drive short distances purely on electricity, as they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/phev-plug-in-hybrid-electric-vehicle\/\">PHEV<\/a> vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">How do VW vehicles labeled GTE and eTSI differ?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">When comparing vehicles labeled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/gte-gran-turismo-electric\/\">GTE<\/a> and eTSI, we find that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/gte-gran-turismo-electric\/\">GTE<\/a> refers to a plug-in hybrid vehicle (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/plug-in-hybrid\/\">PHEV<\/a>) that allows for purely electric driving. In contrast, eTSI refers to a mild-hybrid vehicle (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/mhev-mild-hybrid-electric-vehicle\/\">MHEV<\/a>), which, as we have already explained, does not have the capability to drive solely on electric power.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Did you know:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Similar technical solutions to eTSI are also offered by the sister car manufacturer \u0160koda under the name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/e-tec\/\">e-TEC<\/a>, or the Audi brand.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cars labeled as eTSI are equipped with a mild-hybrid drivetrain.
