This function is necessary, for example, when there is a demand for rapid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/acceleration\/\">acceleration<\/a> or during overtaking maneuvers. When kick-down function is activated, even the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/air-conditioning-ac-aircondition\/\">air conditioning<\/a> is temporarily disconnected to avoid reducing engine power.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Kick-down Function<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">If the driver sharply depresses the accelerator pedal to the floor, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/ecu-electronic-control-unit\/\">electronic control unit<\/a> of the automatic transmission evaluates the situation via the accelerator pedal position switch as a demand for maximum power. Immediately, the transmission will downshift by one or two gear ratios, and the vehicle will start <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/acceleration\/\">accelerating<\/a> with maximum available power.
