The principle is simple: if the car is travelling on a flat or slightly downhill road and the driver takes his foot off the accelerator, the car will shift itself into neutral. This reduces mechanical resistance and therefore fuel consumption. As soon as the driver touches the brake or the accelerator, the corresponding gear is engaged again. For example, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/prevodovka-dsg\/\">DSG<\/a> automatic transmissions from the 4th generation onwards are equipped with the glide function.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva; font-size: small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_plachteni_001.jpg\">&nbsp;<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_plachteni_001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5071 size-medium\" title=\"Porsche Panamera S Hybrid\" src=\"http:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_plachteni_001-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_plachteni_001-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_plachteni_001-250x166.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_plachteni_001.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana,geneva; font-size: small;\">Some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/hybridni-pohon\/\">hybrid<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/mhev-mild-hybrid-electric-vehicle\/\">mild-hybrid<\/a> cars can even <strong>switch off the combustion engine<\/strong> completely and drive using only the electric motor.
