Of course, at that time Opel already had a range of sporty models, but there was a need to clearly differentiate them. The first Opel cars to carry the <strong>GSi designation<\/strong> were the <strong>Opel Manta GSi<\/strong> and <strong>Kadett GSi<\/strong>. Both cars were given the same 115 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/konska-sila\/\">hp<\/a> 1.8-litre engine, which in itself made them suitable for sporty driving. Remember, it was the end of 1984! Both models were a great success! The GSi symbol became legendary very soon and lasted until the late 90s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_gsi-grand-sport-injection_00.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9567 size-large\" title=\"logo GSi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_gsi-grand-sport-injection_00-600x182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_gsi-grand-sport-injection_00-600x182.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_gsi-grand-sport-injection_00-250x76.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_gsi-grand-sport-injection_00-768x233.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/obr_clanky\/cs_gsi-grand-sport-injection_00.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>&nbsp; <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">In 1997, a new sports division of Opel was founded under the name <strong>Opel Performance Center GmbH<\/strong>. Gradually, the <strong>new name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/opc-opel-performance-center\/\">OPC<\/a><\/strong> was applied to the sports derivatives of the production cars. This designation lasted until the takeover of Opel by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolexicon.net\/articles\/psa-groupe\/\">PSA<\/a>, which decided to return the shine to the good old GSi.
